TK-2102 AIRMAX NP and TK-2104 AIRMAX VP RUBBERIZED AIR/ VAPOR/WATER BARRIER AND TRANSITION STRIPS FOR A COMPLETE SYSTEM TO PROTECT THE EXTERIOR BUILDING ENVELOPE.

Detailed Design Sketches for Proper Application

Design Sketches for Block Building with a Brick Veneer
Design Sketches for Brick Veneer on a Steel Stud Back Up Wall

For a comprehensive system to protect any exterior envelope (to meet ASTM E 2178):

TK-2102 AirMax NP and TK-2104 AirMax VP Rubberized Air Barrier sprayed onto masonry, poured concrete, precast walls or dens-glas along with a self-adhering Butyl Tape or, self-adhering cold-applied composite sheet membrane (transition strips) around windows and doors and over control joints (transition joints located at beams, columns, changes in substrate material, and similar joints or connections) and pipe and conduit extrusions through the wall make up a comprehensive system to protect any exterior envelope.  The transition strips are installed after TK-2102 and TK-2104 is sprayed to the wall and cured.  TK-2102 and TK-2104 serves as the primer for the transition strips for good adhesion.  Expanding foam can be used to fill conduit and pipe extrusions through the wall.

Products:

-TK-2102 AirMax NP and TK-2104 AirMax VP Rubberized Air Barrier spray-on membrane

-TK Approved Non-Shrink Butyl Tape or Self-Adhering Transition Strip Membrane

Instructions:
Instructions for the spray or roll application of TK-2102 AirMax NP and TK-2104 AirMax VP Rubberized Air Barrier.

Material:
Material is ready for use, requires no mixing unless signs of separation are observed.  It is unlawful to further reduce with non-exempt solvents

Wall preparation:
A clean, dry, surface is required. New concrete should be allowed to cure until the surface appears dry. Surface should be frost-free. Concrete block laid and walls poured late in the year should be allowed to gain sufficient strength for good adhesion. Existing concrete surfaces must be thoroughly cleaned prior to application.
All masonry block and poured concrete voids, form tie holes, cracks, honeycombed areas should be filled and repaired.  Mortar smears, dirt and form release agents that will affect adhesion should be removed. TK-2102  and TK-2104 should be applied directly to the clean, dry concrete surface.

Application:
A typical sprayer is 45:1 airless with a .035 - .039 tip.  Brush and/or roller will also work for small applications or touch-ups.

Coverage:
One coat is sufficient at 40 - 70 sq. ft. per gallon.  23 - 40 wet mil film is desired. This will give a dry film of 15 - 20 mils.  Any area that is thin can be recoated.  A wet mil gauge is preferred to maintain the proper coverage rate, or monitoring the square feet that is covered and the gallons used.

Limitations:
TK-2102 can be applied at 0o F. to 100o F., however, it is recommended that TK-2102 be applied above 40o F to assure the substrate is frost free and dry, not frozen.
TK-2104 should be applied when the substrate and air temperature is above 45 degrees and stay above 45 degrees for 24 hours.  Do not apply if rain is expected within 24 hours.

Cleanup of Equipment:
Use TK-00 Solvent for TK-2102 AirMax NP .  For use with a sprayer, pump the solvent through the spray equipment to remove residue of materials, which can clog the hose and wand assembly.
Use mild detergent and water for TK-2104 AirMax VP.

Precautions:

TK-2102 contains aromatic hydrocarbon. Keep away from heat and flame.  Prevent build-up of vapors.  Use only with adequate ventilation.  Do not breathe vapor or spray mist. If you experience eye watering, headaches or dizziness or if air monitoring demonstrates vapor/mist levels are above applicable limits, wear an appropriate, properly fitted respirator (NIOSH/MSHA approved) during and after application. Any person using a respirator must be trained on proper respirator use.  Close the container after each use. Avoid contact with eyes, skin, and clothing. Wash after handling. KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN. TK-2102 or TK-2104 in its cured state is not toxic.

Application of TK-Approved Bon-Shrink Butyl Tape or Self-Adhering Cold applied Composite Sheet Membrane (transition strips)
After TK-2102 AirMax NP and TK-2104 AirMax VP is applied and cured, the butyl tape or self adhering transition strips can be applied to all transition joints at beams, columns, changes in substrate material, similar joints or connections, and control joints.  Membrane Primer will not be needed.  Follow the instructions on the data sheet.
